DeltaV Electronic Marshalling with CHARMs
Remove The Complexity of Marshalling Field Wires
Electronic Marshalling delivers the flexibility to add I/O anywhere in the plant without affecting control room cabinets. Electronic Marshalling provides I/O type connectivity in a single channel component – called a CHARacterization Modules (CHARM). CHARMs allows field wiring of any signal type to be terminated anywhere. This means no marshalling cabinet or cross-wiring, fewer wires, much less work, and fewer contact points for potential failures.
Electronic Marshalling delivers the flexibility to add I/O anywhere in the plant without affecting the control room cabinets. This is possible because Electronic Marshalling provides I/O type connectivity, like AI 4-20mA, AO 4-20mA, AI 0-10V, TC, RTD, DI Dry or Namur, DO High Side, Relays Contact Outputs or Isolated DI and DO for higher currents or higher VAC Voltages, in a single channel component — called a CHARM. CHARMs can be located in hazardous environments like Class1, Division 2 / Zone 2 Group A,B,C,D.
After a CHARM is in place, the channel can be electronically marshalled to any controller in the system. No marshalling cabinet or cross-wiring is needed. Fewer wires are involved and I/O locations do not have to be known upfront. Much less work is needed and fewer contact points for potential failures are given.
CHARMs connect to the CHARM I/O Card (CIOC), which in turn can communicates to multiple controllers. Even if CIOC communication lines, and power distribution to the CHARMs are redundant, the system will alert you proactively if something in the field is happening. For example, the CIOC can monitor both 24VDC supply inputs and temperature to ensure reliable operation while being remotely mounted in a field enclosure in a harsh environment.
We introduced the game-changing technology in DeltaV™ Version 11, now we are enabling you to install small enclosures with up to 12 CHARMs closer to the field devices dramatically reducing wiring and overall installation costs. We also simplified the deployment of Electronic Marshalling and Wireless field devices in existing installations by allowing CHARMs and Wireless devices to be assigned to our M-series controllers.
This video show DeltaV with Electronic Marshalling and how it now also includes solenoid valve integration natively into the CHARM I/O Card. This makes it easier to integrate solenoid valves into DeltaV without the need for design of another communication protocols or the need for mapping of data between solenoid valves and DeltaV. This is a unique Emerson solution with DeltaV and ASCO Numatics.
