Recognition designates Emerson among Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality
ST. LOUIS, Jan. 28, 2021 – Emerson (NYSE: EMR), a global engineering and industrial software company, today announced it has earned a score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and the designation as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
CEI is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report on LGBTQ workplace equality, measuring corporate policies, practices and benefits practices. Emerson is a part of a broad coalition of hundreds of leading companies that earned top marks in 2021.
“We are so proud to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for our commitment to equality and workplace inclusion,” said Akberet Boykin Farr, Emerson’s vice president of Diversity and Social Responsibility. “At Emerson, we strive to foster a culture where our LGBTQ employees come to work knowing they are celebrated, respected and heard. We recognize our responsibility to value these colleagues within our company and extend that into the world.”
One of the ways Emerson meets this commitment and its core value of “Support Our People” is through its LGBTQ + Allies Employee Resource Group. Local chapters host educational events, such as lunch and learns, and participate in community events on behalf of the company. In addition, Emerson recently joined the Business Coalition for the Equality Act, an effort by the Human Rights Campaign to bring leading business groups together to support protections that prohibit discrimination for LGBTQ individuals under existing civil rights laws.
“From the previously unimaginable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to a long-overdue reckoning with racial injustice, 2020 was an unprecedented year. Yet, many businesses across the nation stepped up and continued to prioritize and champion LGBTQ equality,” said Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign president. “This year has shown us that tools like the CEI are crucial in this work to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace, but also that companies must breathe life into these policies and practices in real and tangible ways. Thank you to the companies that understand protecting their LGBTQ employees and consumers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do – but the best business decision.”
The 2021 CEI results show that 1,142 U.S.-based companies promote LGBTQ-friendly workplace policies in the United States, and 57% of CEI-rated companies with global operations are helping to advance the cause of LGBTQ inclusion in workplaces abroad.
