Reservoir modeling software selected to determine well placing and reduce geosteering risk
DUBAI (November 29, 2016) – Emerson Automation Solutions today announced that it has supplied its Roxar RMS™ reservoir modeling software to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). The new licenses will be used to build more accurate and detailed reservoir models.
The new contract expands KOC’s wide adoption of previously purchased Roxar RMS software, which has provided crucial input to KOC in well placing and determining the wellbore trajectory in the most potentially productive parts of the reservoir as well as reducing the geosteering risk for sidetracked wells.
"I am highly satisfied with the Roxar RMS software which has proved to be extremely useful in development geology and is based on my personal experience of over 10 years working with the software,” said Abdullah Al-Awadi, Senior Geologist at KOC. "The structural model, the advanced geostatistical evaluation in terms of gridding and others analyses generated highly accurate results especially on facies and property models. We are now starting to integrate the seismic date with the static model and are finding a lot of flexibility in the workflows and the ability to load any kind of data."
Roxar RMS software helps operators accelerate the field development planning cycle by allowing multiple disciplines to collaborate on a common reservoir model. The software also facilitates the implementation of the Big Loop™ solution, an automated workflow that tightly integrates static and dynamic domains to provide the greatest accuracy, the most comprehensive uncertainty assessment, and the best-quantified risk in the geologic model.
“Our collaboration with KOC increases confidence when it comes to crucial decisions on where to drill, what production strategies to adopt, and how to maximize recovery,” said Ali Ramady, regional sales manager, Middle East & Africa at Emerson Automation Solutions. “We will continue to provide KOC with advanced seismic-to-production management technologies for better workflow integration between the subsurface and surface - a key component of the digital oilfield landscape of the future.”
Emerson’s Roxar RMS reservoir modeling software includes a variety of different modules covering well correlation, mapping, structural modeling, petrophysical modeling, local model updates, facies modeling, fracture modeling and uncertainty management.
Kuwait Oil Company was established in 1934. Since its inception, KOC’s activities have included exploration operations, onshore and offshore surveys, drilling of test wells and the development of producing wells in addition to crude and natural gas exploration. In 1975, the Kuwait Government took 100% control over Kuwait Oil Company, and by 1980, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation was established to bring all state owned oil companies under one entity.
