Packaging Leak Detection
Fast, inline seal integrity testing solutions for aerosol, pharmaceutical and food & beverage packaging applications.
Today’s packaging lines must accommodate unprecedented levels of package varieties, ensure quality, safety and regulatory compliance while increasing production to meet market demands.
Emerson’s Rosemount packaging leak detection systems help manufacturers meet quality requirements and reduce waste and production losses caused by faulty packaging. These automated, inline systems use Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology to deliver 100% product leak testing in real time for a wide variety of package types and sizes in aerosol, food & beverage and pharmaceutical packaging applications.
The Rosemount Quantum Cascade Laser technology tests the sealing integrity of various package types non-destructively. It delivers instantaneous detection of trace gases and rejection of leaky packs without disrupting the production line. A high-flow vacuum pump draws air from around the package, bottle or can and delivers it to the measurement cell. As the laser light passes through the cell, it gets absorbed by the gas of interest. The amount absorbed is then related to a leak rate. If the leak rate is higher than the specification, the pack is automatically rejected.
Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is only effective if the actual package itself is intact, making leak testing an essential process step in any end-to-end MAP operation.
The Rosemount CT4215 Packaging Leak Detection System identifies leaks smaller than 0.3 mm at speeds of up to 200 packs per minute without pack deformation. The system tests a wide range of products, including meat, shredded cheese, flatbreads, ready meals and salads. It can also accommodate different packaging media, such as trays, bags and pouches for improved packaging line flexibility and changeover versatility.
CO2 Charged Beverages
Having enhanced control of the filling process in beverage operations relies on effective leak detection to prevent defective products from leaving the facility. Emerson’s laser-based leak detection systems help beverage operations test beer, alcoholic spirits and carbonated beverages for microleaks in real-time. Our systems are fully automated and provide high-speed, inline container closure integrity testing of different bottle, keg and can sizes.
Emerson’s Rosemount Aerosol Packaging Leak Detection Systems deliver instantaneous detection and rejection of faulty cans moving down the production line at a rate of up to 220 cans per minute. These systems test the entire can regardless of shape or size, ensuring all failure points, including valves, crimps, tri-weld, and seams are tested. They can detect a wide range of propellants including LPG, R134a, CO2, N2O, and DME. Emerson’s systems are fully compliant with industry regulations and standards, including UN, ADR, FEA, and BAMA, among others to help you ensure process control.
