Keep your emissions under control with TopWorx GO Switch
TopWorx GO Switch Thief Hatch Monitoring System provides reliable proximity sensing technology you can rely on.
Emerson’s TopWorx™ GO™ Switch is an extremely versatile sensing solution designed for the most challenging environments and applications. It detects like a proximity switch and functions like a limit switch, providing higher reliability when conventional switches fail. GO Switch provides reliable, durable proximity sensing in the most demanding conditions, and its innovative, unique design provides simplified, maintenance-free high performance.
The TopWorx GO Switch is designed to function where high temperature, pressure, radioactivity and potential for combustion are constant challenges. In addition to high temperature +204 °C (+400 °F), cold temperature -50 °C (-58 °F), and sub-sea 7,010 m (23,000 ft) applications, these products are suitable for use in Flameproof/Explosion Proof, Non-Incendive, Intrinsically Safe hazardous areas with both global and regional certifications available
The lack of visibility and access and the costliness of failure make reliability an essential component of sensing technology. A true maintenance-free device, the TopWorx GO Switch is an ideal solution for applications in upstream oil production, mining, agriculture and other industries. Its simple internal design relies on proximity activation to open and close a dry contact—no power or calibration required—and resists leakage and voltage drops.
Many mission-critical industrial applications, particularly safety features, must be ruggedized and certain to function no matter how long the intervals between their operation, and whether all adjacent systems are functional. With a simplified, power, calibration and maintenance-free design, the TopWorx GO Switch’s dry contact proximity sensing allows operators to trust their sensor systems will not fail at the moments they are most needed.
The TopWorx GO Switch incorporates a one-piece stainless steel construction and sealed design, while its use of magnetic activation eliminates the need for power. As a result of this simple, yet robust design, GO Switch is resistant to lightning and electrical fluctuations, has a high tolerance for vibration and shock and can operate in a wide temperature range (-50° to +200°C). GO Switch is globally and regionally certified for use in dusty and wet environments, including submerged, with ingress protection ratings up to IP68.
Sensors are often applied in hard-to-reach areas of machinery or within mission-critical applications that cannot be shut down or unsealed, such as tank systems. With multiple mounting and wiring options and extended sensing distance models, the TopWorx GO Switch can be fitted to numerous challenging placements, while its maintenance-free and highly durable design helps ensure against costly work stoppages and security events.
The TopWorx GO Switch uses magnets to detect a ferrous metal or magnetic target, and like other proximity switches has no exposed, moving parts. Like a limit switch, it provides highly precise readings and is suitable for a wide variety of industrial applications. By combining these features, the GO Switch requires far less maintenance than traditional limit switches and performs within ruggedized and harsh environments that often prohibit the use of other technologies such as inductive or capacitive sensors.
Square model TopWorx GO Switches are ideal replacements for traditional mechanical limit switches. They are typically used for extended sensing applications that require less precision and come in side- and end-sensing variations. Two internal magnets, with one being more dominant, effect the position of an armature that supports the sealed contacts. A ferrous or magnetic target entering the sensing area diverts the magnetic flux field and makes the other magnet more dominant, resulting in the armature closing the contacts and generating a signal.
Round Series TopWorx GO Switches are ideal for use in harsh and hazardous, highly regulated environments where precision is key. Internal magnets are aligned to repel each other, holding the contacts in one biased position. A ferrous or magnetic target entering the sensing area attracts the primary internal magnet, overcoming the biased position of the sealed contacts, closing them, and generating a signal. With a stainless-steel construction, flexible electrical connectivity, and global and regional certifications, round GO Switches outperform inductive proximity switches in the toughest applications.
In many industrial applications, sloppy mechanisms or physical space constraints mean that proximity or limit switches cannot be installed within normal operating limits. TopWorx GO Switch models solve this problem by using optional magnets that can extend the sensing distance by up to 10 times that of a standard ferrous metal target. Their rugged housing and dry-contact, snap-action response make them ideal replacements in troublesome mechanical limit switch applications, such as railroad bridges, locks and dams and heavy machinery.
Other than the Model 7L, GO Switches do not require power to operate and there are multiple wiring options that can help simplify installation and maintenance. Our switches can be wired AC or DC, N/O or N/C, NPN or PNP, in series or parallel, and can be optioned with a terminal block, lead-wires, various cables, quick-disconnect connectors, junction boxes and other features. For ultimate flexibility combine GO Switches with a Rosemount discrete wireless transmitter, such as the 702 model.
Emerson provides a wide variety of standard mounting brackets for the TopWorx GO Switch that can be installed securely without interfering with operation of the switch or other equipment. Additionally, our engineers can utilize our VIP brackets to provide custom mounting solutions that can accommodate unconventional layouts and small spaces, either by designing a solution in-house, via a third-party, or by assisting the customer with their own design solution.
Our TopWorx™ GO™ Switch for nuclear applications eliminates the need to make switch adjustments and repairs—reducing worker REM exposure in accordance with ALARA safety requirements. These devices utilize a magnetic spring in place of a physical one, leading to high repeatability and avoiding points of environmental and physical wear. Once installed, you no longer have to worry about maintenance issues causing an unplanned outage—letting you focus on high-priority tasks in a stress-free environment.
