The powerful features of the Branson GVX–2H/2HR enable fast-cycle vibration welding of plastic components in automotive applications

Danbury, CT, April, 2016: Branson Ultrasonics, a business of Emerson, offers the new GVX-2 H/HR vibration welder which sets a new standard for vibration welding quality, efficiency, and throughput reconfirming Branson’s position as a global technology leader. GVX–2H/2HR combine a compact footprint and large lift table with precise servo motor drives, closed-loop controls and other powerful features to enable fast-cycle vibration welding of plastic components for automotive, appliance, medical, electronic and other demanding applications.

The GVX-2H/HR welder offers a large lift table with lower fixtures up to 1070 x 600 mm, driven by a precise servo motor at rates up to 500 m/s, offering up to 25 kN of clamp force with accurate, closed-loop calibration and control, making it ideal for low clamp-force manufacturing. Above, a large and powerful vibration head, which is 880 x 376 mm, provides plenty of power for welding larger parts, while a quick tooling change feature provides auto-connectivity between pneumatic and electrical components on the lower fixture and spring balls on the lift table. The welder’s attractive, noise-reducing enclosure (77dB(A) max.) offers a large rear-door for tool changes, with a wide, high-speed front door for fast-cycle or automated part loading and unloading, as well as a high-efficiency LED light curtains overhead for improved workplace visibility.

The new GVX-2H vibration welder from Branson not only offers an exceptional level of speed, precision, and quality, but also the promise of exceptional long-term production versatility. The user configurable design of the GVX-2H welder complements a powerful set of standard features with a host of application-specific upgrades. These options include everything from the addition of Branson’s dual-axis Clean Vibration Technology (CVT) to over 60 available minor upgrade options.

“Branson has designed the GVX- 2H/HR systems packed with powerful features for maximum weld quality, efficiency and throughput. With this offering, we are setting the bar high for vibration welders in the market place. The GVX product family is now the industry standard for applications requiring speed and precision”, stated John Paul Kurpiewski, Director, Global Product Management, Non-Ultrasonics, for Branson.

An advanced user interface enables the GVX-2H/HR to accommodate up to 99 different users with configurable access rights. The crisp digital display offers intuitive navigation with globally recognized icons and improved sequence editor that simplifies production programming. Programmers may select from dozens of tooling codes and welding specifications, plus other features like automatic tooling identification and weld specification recognition. Customers can configure the HMI to allow operators to access production related functions as well as preventing modifications of critical parameters.

For applications that require clean, particulate free welds, the GVX-2HR model adds Branson’s Clean Vibration Technology (CVT), which utilizes infrared (IR) power emitters to pre-heat part joints for faster, more consistent vibration welds. The dual-axis CVT offers programmable motion control and fast tool travel to rapidly weld parts with more complex 3-D geometries. The GVX-2HR model houses the modular CVT frame, servo drives, IR power supplies and emitters within an extended sound enclosure. No cam plates or cylinders are needed, reducing tool cost and increasing speed.

Branson offers a full range of plastic welding solutions such as the GVX- 2H/HR welders, that are fast, clean and energy efficient, able to stand alone or integrated smoothly into existing automated systems. Clients can leverage Branson’s unsurpassed industry experience through its network of people, facilities and technical resources in the Americas, Europe and Asia, gaining the edge they need to manufacture products more efficiently and get to market faster. Branson provides detailed information and guidelines for optimal use of their welding equipment for customers and interested persons.
